Review on novel : Wonder
Wonder is an astonishing novel written by R.J Palacio. The story revolves around a young boy called August who was diagnosed with far too many medical conditions that resulted in his abnormal physical appearance and over twenty five medical procedures conducted on him; Therefore his parents were forced to home school him, until now. After nine years of taking rounds of the hospital, August's parents decide that now he is fit to go to school now and then enroll him in the fifth grade of Beecher Prep. The story continues by discussing the issues the protagonist(August) faced and his experiences in school.
This international bestselling novel is a must read for all!! The Guardian says this novel "Has the power to move hearts and change minds" I feel this statement is justified for the following reasons:
- The novel reeks familiarity. We have all been or are going through the situations and experiences the protagonist goes through in school.
- It discusses each situation in every character's perspective. This is done to tell us there are different perspectives to each situation therefore we must not blindly judge situations or people, but put ourselves in their "shoes" first to further analyse.
- The novel also inspires the reader's to be better human beings and to not inflict our opinion upon others.
- This novel also tells us to " not judge a book by it's cover". We should not judge anything based on first impressions look beyond that.
- Another moral this novel teaches us is we don't have to change ourselves for the approval of others.
- This novel isn't just a book of morals, it is also very humorous and engaging.
